If you’re a Nepali student planning to study in Japan, this guide will help you navigate the immigration process and obtain a student visa step by step.
📍 Important Note:
The VFS Global office (which processes visa applications) is only in Kathmandu. If you’re outside Kathmandu, you must visit the capital to apply for and receive your visa.
Step-by-Step Immigration Process
✅ Step 1: Collect Required Documents
Gather all necessary paperwork, including:
✔ Academic transcripts & certificates
✔ Passport copy
✔ Proof of financial stability
✔ Admission letter from a Japanese language school
✅ Step 2: Send Documents to Japan
Courier your documents to the Japanese Language School where you’ve been accepted.
✅ Step 3: Apply for a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)
The school submits your CoE application to the Regional Immigration Bureau in Japan.
✅ Step 4: CoE Issuance
The Immigration Bureau of Japan reviews and issues your CoE (takes about 3.5 – 4 months).
✅ Step 5: Receive CoE in Nepal
Once your CoE is approved, your language school sends it to you in Nepal.
✅ Step 6: Apply for a Student Visa at VFS Global
Submit your visa application along with your CoE and other documents to the Japanese Embassy in Nepal (through VFS Global).
✅ Step 7: Visa Issuance
If your visa application is approved, the Japanese Embassy grants your student visa.
✅ Step 8: Book a Flight to Japan
Once you have your student visa, purchase an air ticket to Japan.
✅ Step 9: Enter Japan & Begin Your Studies
Upon arrival, you must:
✔ Register at your language school
✔ Apply for National Health Insurance
✔ Attend orientation and start your academic journey!
